#JustPitchIt is Almost Here!

#JustPitchIt is less than half a month away! I’m incredibly excited to see what everyone will be pitching. This week, I plan to start focusing on getting the word out to more agents about the pitch party (inevitably, some will still be in the dark). So, please continue to help share your excitement—that will help draw agents and editors in better than any little heads up I can provide.

For today, I want to do a couple of things. First, I need to announce who won the full query review by yours truly. I also want to make sure everyone who wants to get qualified for prizes on May 1st knows how to do so. Finally, I’m going to iterate the rules involved with the #JustPitchIt Twitter pitch party.

How to Win Prizes on May 1, 2014

I’m aware that the Google form I created for pitch submissions was not properly accepting responses. That’s my fault—I should have been more vigilant about making sure responses were coming through. So, instead of a 24 hour window (as originally planned), I’ve decided to open that window up until the end of this week.

When I first planned on the workshops, the pitch workshop was going to be first and the query workshop was going to be second. That order had to be changed, so I should have moved back the pitch submissions anyway. Which leads me to my little surprise announcement:

#JustPitchIt Rules and Regulations

For those of you who have not participated in Twitter pitch party before, let take a moment to explain how it works:

  1. You come up with a 140 character pitch for your manuscript, including the #JustPitchIt hashtag, as well as the genre hashtag (MG, NF, etc.);
  2. On May 1st, Tweet your pitch;
  3. Agents and acquisition editors will be lurking around to “favorite” pitches they would like queried to them.
  4. If an agent or editor “faves” your pitch, you can either message them or check their feed for details for how to query them.

The above graphic shows the main rules for you to remember on May 1, 2014. Some other pitch party etiquette rules that I’d like you to keep in mind are these:

  • If you’re not an agent, nor are you an acquisitions editor, do not favorite the pitches you like. If you like one, retweet it instead. Those RTs and Faves go towards the prizes mentioned above, by the way.
  • If you are an agent or acquisitions editor, please only favorite the pitches you are genuinely interested in receiving. I know it’s easy to get caught up, but just be extra careful. Retweet if you like, favorite if you want.
  • Please do not tweet a pitch for the same manuscript more than twice an hour.

  3. Does it need to be MG or is YA also acceptable?

    • For May 1st, it must either be MG or NF. If it’s YA/NF, then you’re still covered. You’ll be able to submit during the October 20th #JustPitchIt, though. :)
